Founded in 2004, Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the premier global initiative dedicated to promoting cybersecurity awareness and best practices. This collaborative effort involves businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, associations, nonprofit organizations, tribal communities, and individuals working together to enhance online safety.
From smartphones to smart home devices, technology is intricately woven into our daily lives. While emerging technologies offer numerous benefits, they also present new opportunities for cybercriminals to disrupt our home, school, or work activities. Cybersecurity Awareness Month addresses these evolving challenges and provides straightforward, actionable guidance to help everyone create a safer digital environment for themselves and their loved ones.
This year’s theme, “Secure Our World,” emphasizes the importance of adopting four simple steps to bolster online safety:
- Use Strong Passwords and a Password Manager: Understand the benefits and debunk myths surrounding password managers to enhance your security and simplify password management.
- Turn on Multifactor Authentication (MFA): Add an extra layer of protection to personal devices and business networks to safeguard against unauthorized access.
- Recognize and Report Phishing: Stay vigilant against phishing attempts, a common tactic used by cybercriminals to gain access to sensitive information.
- Install Updates Regularly: Ensure your software is up-to-date and enable automated updates to protect against vulnerabilities.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month continues to gain momentum. The goal is to equip everyone with the knowledge needed to stay safe and secure online.
